Question

My child has been severely coughing for many days now, and it hasn’t changed at all. I don’t know what’s going on, and later when I took them to the hospital, they said the child has bronchial asthma. So, I want to understand what this is all about?

Answer

Asthma is a chronic airway inflammation involving various cells, particularly mast cells, eosinophils, and T lymphocytes. In susceptible individuals, this inflammation can lead to recurrent episodes of wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness and/or coughing, mainly at night and/or in the morning when the airways react more strongly to various stimuli. However, symptoms can resolve spontaneously or through treatment. It is recommended that once asthma is cleared, long-term adherence to standardized treatment is necessary. The usual course of treatment is for more than half a year.
