Question

A premature baby born before 37 weeks was diagnosed with mild brain hypoxia after a CT scan, and the doctor prescribed a course of medication. Is this treatment sufficient? Is there a risk of complications?

Answer

Brain cells have a high demand for oxygen, and even brief hypoxia can cause irreversible damage. It is recommended to use nutritional drugs for brain protection treatment in the early stage. If the symptoms of hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy are not severe, a course of treatment is usually sufficient. Moderate or mild hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy generally does not leave complications. It is suggested to undergo a head MRI for further examination. If the results are abnormal, early intervention for rehabilitation treatment should be done as soon as possible, as early treatment tends to be more effective.
