Question
My son is just over a month old and is currently being breastfed. He has to have six or seven bowel movements a day, and his stools are rather loose. His stools have turned a bit green over the past two days. Is there a problem with his digestion? Other children only have bowel movements two or three times a day. What medication should I give him if he has this condition? Thank you.
Answer
Infants may experience yellow or green, loose stools shortly after birth, with frequent bowel movements, but they remain in good spirits, without vomiting, and have a good appetite. As they grow older, diarrhea often disappears naturally after introducing complementary foods. Infants with physiological diarrhea may develop skin rashes, fever, and other symptoms after consuming foreign proteins such as milk or eggs, or even after exposure to sunlight, wind, or friction from clothing.
