Question
How should neonatal jaundice be treated?
Answer
Neonatal jaundice can be categorized into two types: physiological and pathological. Physiological jaundice usually appears within 2 to 3 days after birth and lasts for about 3 to 5 days, sometimes even naturally subsides around a week without medication. Pathological jaundice, on the other hand, refers to jaundice that appears within 24 hours after birth and lasts longer, not resolving on its own. Treatment often involves a combination of methods such as using magnolia officinalis extract, probiotics, increased sun exposure, and glucose water. If the jaundice index is extremely high, blue light therapy may be employed.
