Question

I would like to ask Dr. Xie, when can we schedule the surgery for my child’s hypospadias? We came to your hospital last year, and the doctor said the child was too young and should wait until after two years of age. Now the child is already two weeks old, what should we do?

Answer

Hypospadias is a common congenital anomaly of the male lower urinary tract and external genitalia. The urethral opening normally extends from the ventral side of the penis to the proximal end of the normal perineal urethral opening. Most cases are accompanied by incomplete penile development. Urethroplasty is the only treatment method for hypospadias. To completely correct penile curvature, urethral opening of the glans, standing urination, and normal sexual life after adulthood, it is recommended to wait until the child is two years old before undergoing surgery. You can contact our staff to schedule an appropriate surgery time. Thank you!
