Question
What complications can hemolytic jaundice cause? Are there any good treatments? Can it be cured? Please give a medical advice.
Answer
The main complication of neonatal hemolytic jaundice is “brain damage,” but most cases are “reversible” if treated promptly, and do not result in permanent damage. Symptoms include drowsiness, decreased responsiveness, weak suckling, reduced Moro reflex, and decreased muscle tone. In severe cases, it may be accompanied by screaming and vomiting. Generally, these symptoms last for about 12-24 hours. If the condition worsens, it may progress to the convulsive phase, presenting with severe neurological symptoms.
