Question

After 20 days of intravenous fluid administration, a CT scan showed changes in various parts of the brain. Is this a sign of brain palsy?

Answer

It is a normal developmental situation for a child to be able to sit up independently at six months old, and no treatment is needed. It is recommended to observe more and refer to normal growth and development indicators. There are also many related materials available on the internet. Subdural effusion usually occurs unilaterally, while bilateral conditions may be asymmetric. There is a low-density area in the inner part of the brain, presenting as a crescent shape, which compresses and flattens the nearby brain surface. The brain sulcus becomes shallower, and there is a displacement effect. The arachnoid membrane is located on the inner side of the dura mater. When the subarachnoid cavity expands, it gets closer to the inner side of the skull, enhancing visibility of the dot-like vascular shadows (veins) adjacent to the inner side of the skull. Subdural effusion, however, due to the inward shift of the arachnoid membrane, moves the vascular shadows away from the inner side of the skull.
