Question

I had a prenatal check-up and was diagnosed with a large baby. Can a large baby really lead to shoulder dystocia? How should it be treated?

Answer

When the baby’s head has been delivered but the shoulder cannot be, because it is caught by the pubic bone, then this is diagnosed as shoulder dystocia. It is difficult to predict shoulder dystocia before delivery; it can only be known during labor. If shoulder dystocia does occur, we should know how to proceed to help deliver the baby, and wish for good health.
