Question

My baby has been born for a few days, how long does it usually take for jaundice to subside? What should I pay attention to during this time?

Answer

It is still recommended to consult a pediatrician at the hospital. Jaundice typically begins to appear 2-3 days after a newborn’s birth, becoming most prominent 4-5 days later, and naturally subsides within 7-14 days. They generally remain in good condition without any adverse reactions. This is known as “physiological jaundice” due to the immaturity of liver function. Premature infants may develop jaundice later, possibly on the 3rd or 4th day, and it may last longer. Premature infant jaundice can persist for 14 days or even longer.
