Question
What Are the Symptoms of Neonatal Seizures?
Answer
The symptoms of neonatal seizures may include persistent staring, trembling, or blinking of the eyes, even after the baby has eaten. Additionally, breathing may become irregular, accompanied by blue skin tone and facial muscle spasms. In some cases, the baby may suddenly lose consciousness, arch the head back, have fixed upward or lateral eye deviation, foam at the mouth, clench the jaws tightly, and experience clonic or tonic spasms in the facial or upper and lower limb muscles. In severe cases, stiffness of the neck, opisthotonos, irregular breathing, blue skin color, or incontinence of urine and feces may be observed. The duration of the seizure can range from a few seconds to several minutes, or even longer.
