Question

Should I be worried if my baby’s face turns yellow three days after birth? Is neonatal physiological jaundice a disease? How should it be handled?

Answer

Neonatal physiological jaundice is usually caused by oxygen exchange during the fetus’s stay in the mother’s womb. After birth, the accumulation of a large number of dead red blood cells on the skin appears yellow. It typically resolves on its own within 14 days after birth, and if there is no improvement, blue light therapy may be required.
