Question

My baby was just born and my wife’s milk is not enough, so we have been giving him formula milk. I want to know how long premature babies should drink formula milk?

Answer

The first stage of formula milk should be consumed for six months. In fact, any type of formula milk requires a gradual adaptation process when switching to a different brand or stage. Just like changing clothes, it’s done one piece at a time. The second stage or a different brand cannot be switched simultaneously. It should be a mixture of 1 and 2. Start with a few spoons of 1 mixed with one spoon of 2, then reduce one spoon of 1 and increase one spoon of 2. Continue this way until it’s all mixed with the baby’s milk. Slowly, it will completely become stage 2 formula milk. Never switch to stage 2 formula milk all at once, as this may cause the baby’s gastrointestinal system to adapt abruptly, leading to diarrhea.
