Question
When a baby experiences a large amount of vomiting after eating, does this mean the baby is full? What should parents pay attention to in daily life?
Answer
Baby vomiting is usually due to a small stomach capacity and an underdeveloped lower esophageal sphincter. When a baby lies down immediately after eating, milk may come out of the mouth, even vomiting out all the recently ingested milk. This is known as regurgitation and is a normal physiological phenomenon. Parents should immediately clean the baby’s mouth and nose of milk, invert the baby’s body, and gently pat the back to effectively cough out milk from the nose, mouth, trachea, and lungs, preventing aspiration. At the same time, it is recommended to adopt a feeding method of small and frequent meals to avoid overfeeding in one sitting.
