Question

I just had a preterm baby a few days ago and want to play music for them. Can preterm babies listen to music?

Answer

Preterm babies can listen to soft music. A live birth before 37 weeks of gestation is considered preterm or immature infant. They have poorer organ function and adaptive ability compared to full-term infants, and therefore require special care. Preterm babies need to be kept warm at birth and quickly transferred to a preadjusted incubator for premature infants as they prepare for treatment. Preterm babies have some degree of hearing function and can listen to some soothing music.
