Question

My baby was born with jaundice, and the whole family is very worried. How should we handle neonatal jaundice?

Answer

Neonatal jaundice is a common occurrence within the first week after birth. Parents must pay close attention to the severity of the jaundice. Parents can observe the extent of the newborn’s skin jaundice under natural light. Only facial jaundice is considered mild; trunk skin jaundice is moderate; and severe jaundice affects limbs, hands, feet, and heart. It doesn’t matter if the baby is near a window with natural light during the day or if the lights are not bright. There will be no effect. Any wavelength of natural light is useful, and to some extent, it is helpful. However, don’t let the baby be directly exposed to sunlight to avoid sunburn and ultraviolet damage.
