Question

The baby is premature, and all indicators are not very ideal. What assessments are available for the psychomotor development of premature babies?

Answer

Neonatal behavioral neurological measurements can be conducted at 40 weeks post-birth, followed by monthly assessments. Through 52 neuro-motor tests and the Peabody Motor Development Scale, motor function is evaluated. The Peabody Motor Development Scale uses gross motor skills, fine motor skills, and general developmental quotient to comprehensively assess the baby’s motor development, and is accompanied by a motor development intervention training program. To evaluate the intellectual and motor development of premature babies in later stages, different evaluation scales can be adopted according to different ages. These include the Denver Developmental Screening Test, Bayley Scales of Infant Development, Gesell Developmental Scales for Infants, and the Wechsler Children’s Intelligence Scale, which are commonly used in clinical practice.
