Question

The newborn has recently been diagnosed with pneumonia and has now been discharged. Is follow-up treatment necessary?

Answer

After discharge, there is no need for consolidation therapy. The baby is still very young and does not require any further medication. There are various types of newborn pneumonia, which are related to the type of infection. Viral and bacterial infections are the most common, with foreign body aspiration also being a frequent cause. The main symptoms of newborn pneumonia include difficulty breathing, asphyxia, and severe respiratory failure. Infectious pneumonia often presents with high fever. Newborn pneumonia progresses rapidly, so it is important to note that hospitalization is generally required. After discharge, a thorough treatment must be administered before leaving the hospital, and no consolidation treatment is needed.
