Question

How should neonatal jaundice be treated?

Answer

If a newborn shows signs of jaundice with yellowing of the face, hands, and feet, and the conjunctiva has been yellow for 8 days, the treatment does not require blue light therapy but medication is necessary to ensure the baby can receive vaccinations by the time of full moon. It is recommended to give the baby Yinzhu Huang and Bifidobacterium supplements, and to have a follow-up after 5 to 7 days. Also, encourage the baby to get more sunlight, consume more milk, water, and stool.
