Question

My baby was born with neonatal pneumonia, and the pneumonia has improved after treatment. However, dry cough and nasal congestion have persisted for over a month, and the examination shows that the lung respiratory sound is rough. I want to ask if this condition is serious for pneumonia, and how to deal with the cough and nasal congestion?

Answer

For newborns, pneumonia is not a severe issue. Since their digestive system is not yet fully developed, the baby’s stomach might not be in great shape. You can purchase some medication to improve this problem. Lactase is specially designed for newborns who cannot digest milk and is also quite affordable. Additionally, there are other medications available, such as children’s lactic acid bacteria tablets, filial piety mother tablets, and probiotics. However, I personally believe that probiotics are not very effective. Moreover, when mothers drink soup, it’s best to skim off the oil from the soup, as excessive oil can lead to baby diarrhea. At the same time, the intake of fruit should be moderate; don’t eat too much.
