Question

My son was born about a week ago, and he has developed some jaundice that has not yet subsided. There are also some vaccinations that need to be administered. I would like to ask the doctor, can a newborn with persistent jaundice receive vaccinations? Are there any adverse effects?

Answer

Newborn jaundice is often considered physiological jaundice. As long as it’s not severe, it usually resolves completely within 2 weeks. If the jaundice is more severe or persists, it may be pathological jaundice. Vaccinations should be administered after the jaundice has cleared, as vaccination can sometimes weaken the body’s constitution, and in the presence of jaundice, it may worsen the condition and possibly lead to symptoms like fever or a cold. It is recommended to proceed with vaccinations under a doctor’s guidance.
