Question

My baby was born less than a month ago, and last night the baby’s face turned red, breathing was difficult, and the baby wouldn’t take the breast milk. We went to the hospital, and the doctor said it was pneumonia. I want to know how long the treatment for newborn pneumonia takes, and will there be any complications?

Answer

Newborn pneumonia typically heals in about 7 days, at which point no other complications have occurred. If accompanied by heart failure, respiratory failure, or other diseases or complications, the course of treatment will be longer, possibly requiring 7-14 days or even longer. Of course, each newborn’s specific situation may also vary due to environmental factors, as well as the sensitivity to medication, individual differences, and overall development.
