Question

The baby just born didn’t cry, and the doctor said it was newborn asphyxia. The baby is currently receiving emergency care in the hospital. How should we care for a newborn with asphyxia? How should it be treated and prevented?

Answer

Maintaining warmth is crucial throughout the entire rescue process. Due to the poor respiratory circulation after newborn asphyxia, body temperature often does not rise. The indoor temperature should be controlled between 24℃ and 26℃. Babies with lower body temperatures can be kept warm with a hot water bottle until their body temperature reaches above 36℃. Depending on the situation, they can be placed in an incubator. When using a hot water bottle for warming, be sure to avoid burning the skin. The temperature and humidity in the incubator should be maintained appropriately and observed regularly to keep the relative humidity between 55% and 65%.
