Question
My baby is 28 days old and hiccups every time after feeding. Does this mean the baby is full? What methods can be used to relieve the hiccups?
Answer
Hello. Hiccups in newborns are a normal physiological phenomenon, primarily due to the horizontal position of their stomachs. After each feeding, it is recommended to hold the baby upright and gently pat their back, especially if there is a chance of vomiting. This should be done for about five minutes before placing the baby back down. The purpose of this is to help the baby expel the air inhaled during swallowing. Hiccups do not necessarily indicate that the baby is full; each infant reacts differently. Some infants may still have vomiting episodes even at ten months old, but typically, as they grow older, the situation improves. Please do not worry too much; just take good care of your baby.
