Question
What is the reference value for neonatal jaundice?
Answer
Neonatal jaundice is a phenomenon that occurs within the first 28 days after birth, primarily manifested by yellowing of the skin, mucous membranes, and sclera. Physiological jaundice usually appears 2-3 days after birth, reaches its peak between 4-6 days, and gradually subsides between 7-10 days. Premature infants may have a longer duration, generally with no other obvious symptoms besides mild loss of appetite. If jaundice appears within 24 hours after birth and does not subside within 2-3 weeks, or if other abnormal conditions occur, it is considered pathological jaundice.
