Question

My child was just born and has recently developed jaundice. The doctor has recommended treatment and observation, and I am very worried. Is neonatal jaundice a condition that babies must have?

Answer

Neonatal jaundice includes two types: physiological jaundice and pathological jaundice. Physiological jaundice is caused by an excess of bilirubin metabolism and may return to normal; pathological jaundice, however, requires treatment, including conditions such as congenital liver disease, bile duct obstruction, or hemolytic diseases, and timely control of the stability of the condition is necessary.
