Question
My child was born just a week ago, and I’ve heard that newborns are prone to jaundice. I’ve had three checks, but the results have been different each time. Why is that?
Answer
Newborns usually develop jaundice two days after birth, which typically fades after 7 days and is a physiological issue. If jaundice persists for too long, it’s advisable to check with a hospital. If the jaundice level exceeds 12.9, it is considered pathological jaundice. Different results from three checks are a normal phenomenon. If the level is below 12.9, there’s no need to worry too much; you can give the baby some glucose water.
