Question

How to treat abdominal epilepsy?

Answer

Abdominal epilepsy typically presents with symptoms of autonomic nervous system dysfunction. The pain can occur suddenly, be severe, and sometimes feel as if it’s being sliced by a knife. This pain can last for several minutes or hours. Neurological examinations usually show negative results, and symptoms during the intervals are normal. Symptoms of abdominal epilepsy can coexist with various types of epilepsy seizures. When abdominal epilepsy attack is accompanied by loss of consciousness and disorientation, immediate supine positioning with the head turned to one side, loosening of clothing, and keeping the airway clear should be done.
