Question

My child often wakes up crying and fussing between 11 PM and midnight, initially happening every two days and then becoming a daily occurrence. The symptoms include sudden waking with no apparent reason and talking in dreams. Could this be due to nightmares?

Answer

Children are prone to waking up during sleep, possibly because their nervous system is not fully developed, leading to increased excitability. If the child has experienced a severe event or been frightened, consider the possibility of nightmares. However, if the child only shows restless sleep at night, tossing and turning without other causes, it may not necessarily be due to nightmares but could be a sign of calcium deficiency. In this case, it is recommended to supplement with calcium and cod liver oil.
