Question

A 20-month-old baby seemed to be scared after falling from the bed, and since then, has been crying suddenly every night when sleeping, while appearing normal during the day. There is a suggestion to give the child sedatives. Should experts prescribe such medications for the child?

Answer

Babies who are scared may show symptoms such as low fever, diarrhea, vomiting, talking incoherently, strabismus, eyelids not fully closing during sleep, smiling crookedly while sleeping, eyes moving around during sleep, drooling, and sudden, uncontrollable crying. However, not all of these symptoms necessarily mean the baby has been scared. Medications are not the best choice for treating psychological trauma. It is recommended to provide psychological counseling at the spot where the baby fell, helping them face and overcome their inner fears rather than avoiding them. Through positive guidance, allow the baby to gradually adapt and overcome the impact of the scare on their mental state.
