Question

I have a question for the experts. My child often sweats while sleeping, and the doctor mentioned several possible reasons, including calcium deficiency and abnormal nerve growth. However, the blood tests showed no calcium deficiency. Is there any medication that can promote nerve growth and regulate the nervous system? Or are there any dietary remedies?

Answer

Due to rapid growth and development, vigorous metabolism, and an imperfect nervous system regulation function, children are prone to sweating more. In most cases, this is a physiological condition of excessive sweating. It is more noticeable during hot weather, when wearing too many or too tight clothes, during activity, after eating hot food, before going to bed, when stressed or fearful. Here are some suggestions:

  • Encourage your child to drink more water.
  • Change clothes frequently, bathe more often, and ensure your child’s skin is clean.
  • Supplement zinc, as some children may have normal zinc levels but still suffer from picky eating or eating disorders.
  • Be mindful of rickets, which can also cause excessive sweating, especially in infants and young children. I recommend taking your child to a reputable hospital for a check-up to obtain a more accurate diagnosis and treatment plan.
