Question
What is the correct method for treating a child’s scald burn? How should scald burns be treated?
Answer
- Do not wrap the burn after it occurs to avoid infection and delay healing.
- Avoid using ‘folk’ methods, such as soy sauce or toothpaste, as they are actually not very effective.
- If no medication is available, rinse the wound with cool water and soak for half an hour. The sooner the soaking starts and the cooler the water, the better the effect (but not below 5℃, to avoid frostbite). Do not soak wounds that have blisters and are broken to prevent infection. It is recommended to strengthen care for the child and provide a light diet.
