Question
Dear Doctor, my baby is nearly six months old. He experienced diarrhea for about a month. The stool test showed an elevated number of white blood cells, but due to an allergy to penicillin, antibiotic treatment was not used. After taking Montmorillonite powder and Lactobacillus casei, and switching to a lactose-free formula, the diarrhea improved. I am currently trying to switch back to the previous brand of formula.
Answer
Hello, based on the previous test results, your baby may have had enteritis at that time, but it has been over half a month since then. At this stage, considering that it might be due to allergic factors, I suggest you continue using the diarrhea formula and continue feeding for 1 to 2 weeks. When transitioning formulas, it should be done gradually. The proportion of new formula in the mixture of new and old formulas should be 1/4 each time, and observe your baby’s reaction.
