Question

A university friend’s child has mild symptoms of cerebral palsy, and the condition has improved after treatment. They want to know what the new definition of pediatric cerebral palsy is.

Answer

Cerebral palsy is an abbreviation for brain palsy, usually referring to a non-progressive brain injury or brain developmental abnormality caused by various reasons within the period from before birth to one month after birth. It leads to central nervous system motor disorders. Clinically, it presents as abnormal posture and muscle tone, muscle weakness, involuntary movements, and ataxia. It often accompanies sensory, cognitive, communication, behavioral impairments, and skeletal muscle abnormalities. It may also sometimes trigger epilepsy seizures.
