Question

My child was just born and doesn’t sleep during the day, and they cry continuously at night. Sometimes, while crying, it seems like they can’t catch their breath. This has been going on for over a week. Could there be a problem with the baby? What are the symptoms of neonatal cerebral palsy?

Answer

It could be symptoms of tremor-type cerebral palsy. The main lesions are in the visual pathway and the cerebellum, characterized by involuntary, rhythmic movements of body parts within a plane. The symptoms of cerebral palsy mainly manifest as static tremors, large and rhythmic, with temporary inhibition of movement, most commonly seen in the upper limbs. Action tremors, increased movement, and nystagmus may also occur occasionally. Simple tremor-type cerebral palsy is less common and is more prevalent in other types.
