Question

My baby was born with a G6PD deficiency and has jaundice. It’s almost 10 days old, and the jaundice hasn’t subsided yet. The baby’s body temperature is normal, and they are strong at breastfeeding. The baby often coughs and sleeps deeply during the day but cries and is restless at night. I’ve heard that using rhubarb to bathe newborns with jaundice can help?

Answer

Most infants develop physiological jaundice around three days after birth. This usually disappears after about 14 days. There is no need to treat it. Bathing children with honeysuckle and boiling water is ineffective and may have unintended side effects. It’s best to consult a doctor if your child has jaundice or needs treatment. Medications or phototherapy can be used, while ensuring the child stays warm and receives adequate nutrition.
