Question

My child is over 5 years old and is quite weak. At night, they won’t wake up to urinate and will wet the bed. Sometimes, they even have an accident and soil their pants. I want to give them some ginseng or Korean ginseng, but I’m not sure if it’s appropriate. I would appreciate it if you could all give me your advice.

Answer

It is well-known that bedwetting is a very common phenomenon among infants and young children. If a child cannot control urination during the day or cannot wake up from sleep to urinate voluntarily after the age of 3, it is called primary enuresis. The exact cause of enuresis is still not fully understood and is believed to be related to the following factors: (1) Genetic factors: 30% of children with enuresis have fathers who also suffered from enuresis as children, and 20% have mothers who did. Conversely, if both parents have a history of enuresis, there is a 40% chance their sons will have enuresis, and a 25% chance their daughters will also suffer from this condition. The cause of childhood enuresis is related to family heredity, and there is no direct connection with ginseng.
