Question

Does my baby’s neonatal jaundice require blue light therapy?

Answer

Your baby’s jaundice level is slightly elevated and requires treatment. Blue light therapy is harmless to the baby and, in mild cases, usually subsides within 2 to 3 days and the skin color returns to normal within 5 to 6 days. In severe cases, jaundice may spread throughout the body, lasting for more than a week, and premature infants may need continuous treatment for up to 4 weeks. Generally, the jaundice will resolve spontaneously within half a month after treatment. It is recommended that the baby maintain good living habits, regular routines, quit smoking and drinking, increase daily exercise, enhance immunity, and avoid recurrence of diseases.
