Question
My child is a 32-week premature baby, now three and a half months old. Recently, he has had a cold, causing nasal congestion. The auscultation result shows no inflammation, and there are no issues with the lungs; it’s just the nose that is blocked. What should I do?
Answer
If the child does not have symptoms such as fever, runny nose, or cough, then the nasal congestion may not be caused by the cold but rather due to a blockage in the nostrils. You can try dropping diluted milk into the baby’s nostrils to see if it resolves the issue. Additionally, using a cotton swab to rotate inside the nostrils can sometimes clear the blockage. Alternatively, having the child inhale steam can moisten the nostrils, which might also be helpful.
