Question
My child has diarrhea, and I’ve given him medication, but it doesn’t seem to work. What are the reasons for diarrhea with watery stools, and how should it be properly treated?
Answer
Watery stools in infants may be due to an autumnal rotavirus infection. Firstly, ensure the baby drinks plenty of water, and consider taking some medication as well as adding probiotics. The key is fluid replacement therapy to prevent dehydration and electrolyte imbalance, which can take at least a week. Also, be mindful of the diet. Eat small meals frequently and opt for easily digestible foods. If breastfed, continue breastfeeding while paying attention to the mother’s diet; avoid colds and overly fatty foods. You can also apply baby oil and ensure abdominal warmth, as well as food hygiene.
