Question
A new baby at home is showing unusual signs, suspected to be cerebral palsy. Want to know about the symptoms of pediatric cerebral palsy.
Answer
The main symptoms include increased muscle tone, particularly in the flexor muscles, especially in the adductor group of the lower limbs. The child finds it difficult to abduct the thighs, knees are hard to extend, and the gastrocnemius muscle shortens, causing flexion. When standing, both lower limbs are straight and internally rotated, with feet in a scissor-like shape. Walking presents a scissor gait with toes touching the ground. Upper limb features include flexion of the elbow and wrist joints. The affected limb exhibits classic upper motor neuron spasms, hyperreflexia, and abnormal reflexes.
