Question
My daughter is 7 years old, and she often wakes up from her dreams every night. However, she doesn’t experience any scare during the day. Someone suggested that this might be due to a calcium deficiency, so I started giving her one bottle of calcium gluconate oral solution (10 milliliters per bottle) in the morning and evening. But after three days of taking the supplement, she has a bit of nosebleed every night. I don’t know what the cause is and want to ask if this could be related to the calcium supplement.
Answer
Calcium supplements are unlikely to directly cause nosebleeds. It’s recommended to check the indoor humidity and ensure the child is consuming enough water and a balanced diet. Additionally, vitamin D should be taken simultaneously when supplementing with calcium. If the nosebleed persists for a long time, it is advisable to consult an otolaryngology department for further examination and tests to rule out other possible disease causes.
