Question

What are the symptoms of neonatal cyanosis?

Answer

Cyanosis is one of the common symptoms in the neonatal period. It refers to the appearance of a bluish color around the face and mouth area of newborns. When the level of reduced hemoglobin in the newborn’s arterial blood exceeds 50g/L, this bluish-red color becomes visible. The main causes of cyanosis may include lung diseases, heart diseases, blood system disorders, central nervous system diseases, and in some cases, normal newborns. Neonatal cyanosis can be mild or life-threatening.
