Question

What should a one-month-old baby’s normal stool be like? New mothers want to know more about this information.

Answer

Breastfed infants usually have soft or pasty stool that is golden yellow, occasionally with a touch of green. The stool is usually softer and thinner than that of formula-fed infants, without any sour taste or foam, and without an obvious smell. It is normal for a baby to have two to three bowel movements a day. If the baby is in good spirits, not vomiting, and gaining weight within the normal range, then there is no problem. However, if the stool appears very thin and watery, further examination and intervention may be needed. Do you have any other questions to address?
