Question
My baby is just over two months old, and I’m taking care of her myself without much experience. I’d like to ask: How often should an infant defecate?
Answer
Whether a baby’s bowel movements are normal cannot be determined solely by the frequency of defecation. The key is to carefully observe the characteristics of the baby’s stool. If it is soft, paste-like, or muddy in texture, with a color ranging from golden yellow, yellow-green, or green, not hard or dry, and there is no pain during defecation, and the weight gain matches the growth and development curve, then it is considered normal. As long as the stool is normal; growth is normal; the routine is easy to maintain; and the defecation process is not difficult, there’s no need to pay too much attention to the interval between bowel movements.
