Question
My daughter is 10 years old, and during a bath, I noticed that her breasts are hard, as if she’s starting to develop. At what age do girls normally begin to develop?
Answer
Puberty is the transitional period from childhood growth and development to adulthood. The female puberty generally occurs between the ages of 12-18. With the increase in sex hormone secretion, both male and female sexual organs and functions rapidly mature, with males experiencing nocturnal emissions and females starting their menstrual periods. In addition to the development of sexual organs, another sign of sexual maturation is the enlargement of the breasts. It’s possible for girls in this age group to develop breasts earlier than their peers, but this does not necessarily indicate precocious puberty.
