Question

A five-year-old child reports frequently feeling dizzy and sometimes experiencing headaches. Past diagnoses and treatment experiences show that blood lead levels and vision are normal. Currently, the child occasionally complains of dizziness.

Answer

Dizziness and headaches can be caused by a variety of factors, including psychological factors, as well as common causes such as sinusitis or abnormal development of intracranial blood vessels (the latter being less likely). It is recommended to undergo a cranial CT or MRI+MRA for a definitive diagnosis. If diagnosed with sinusitis, treatment should follow the sinusitis treatment protocol, and symptoms of headache and dizziness usually disappear as the inflammation is resolved. Additionally, dizziness can also be a symptom of other conditions such as the common cold, cervical spondylosis, anemia, or hypertension, especially when sleep quality is poor. Therefore, it is advised that parents take their child to the hospital for a detailed cranial and brain examination as soon as possible, to rule out the risk of cervical spondylosis, and to receive targeted treatment.
