Question

My baby is 27 days old, and the umbilical cord has not yet fallen off. Is this normal? The area around the umbilical cord in the abdomen has already formed a scab, but it still hasn’t fallen off. I accidentally touched it yesterday, and some black fluid came out. What could this situation be?

Answer

Every baby’s situation may be different; some may take over 20 days to fall off, while others may do so in a week. Make sure to disinfect the umbilical cord daily, even if you don’t bathe. If the umbilical cord is dry and there is no bleeding or pus, it is usually fine. Disinfect with iodine alcohol every day; the umbilical cord typically falls off naturally within a month.
