Question

My baby is four and a half months old and has a right-sided torticollis with a large lump. A few days ago, I noticed that her right arm is slightly fatter than her left one. Both hands move normally, but the left hand is still not as agile. I am very worried and scared! What could be the reason for this? What should I do?

Answer

The baby’s symptoms are similar to congenital muscular torticollis, and it is recommended to seek medical attention as soon as possible. Most children are diagnosed between 4 to 6 months old, when treatment is most effective. Surgery can relieve the contracture, and the sooner it is done, the better. If the torticollis is severe, it is recommended to undergo surgery within 4 to 6 months, rather than waiting until after 1 year. As the child grows older, the symptoms may become more severe and even affect bone development.
