Question

Current condition of the child: The mouth trembles. After examination, it has been diagnosed with hydrocephalus. The child of my wife’s brother also has the same condition, is it related to my wife’s genetics? Is the disease difficult to treat? What kind of impact will it have on the child’s future if the treatment is ineffective?

Answer

Hello! Hydrocephalus is not a genetic disease. It may be a coincidence or related to environmental factors that both children have this condition. Early treatment usually leads to a more optimistic prognosis. If treatment is delayed and leads to further brain tissue damage, the prognosis may be worse. External hydrocephalus is a special type of hydrocephalus, also known as benign hydrocephalus or self-limiting hydrocephalus. If the child’s growth, development, and intelligence are normal, clinical observation is generally sufficient. However, if the child shows symptoms such as backward head tilt, further attention is needed.
