Question

My friend’s baby is 25 days old. The baby was hospitalized due to high jaundice on the fourth day after birth and was discharged after three days of treatment. A few days after coming home, the baby’s skin turned yellow again. I want to ask how long the baby’s jaundice and liver function remain elevated continuously?

Answer

Jaundice generally occurs in newborns within 3-4 days after birth and subsides around a week later. By half a month after birth, the jaundice is still very obvious. The mother is very worried about whether the bile duct is blocked or if there is a liver problem, and she goes to the pediatric hospital for medical attention. However, in many cases, physiological newborn jaundice can last for about a month before subsiding. Although the jaundice does not subside within half a month, it will not lead to serious diseases.
